Healing from trauma can feel isolating, but it doesn’t have to be that way. When we come together in a supportive space, we create a powerful environment for growth and recovery. That’s why I’m excited to invite you to join our guided book club focused on The Body Keeps the Score by Bessel van der Kolk, M.D. Over 8 to 10 weeks, we will explore this groundbreaking book as a group, breaking down complex trauma research into clear, relatable ideas and learning practical tools to support healing and resilience.
This book club is more than just reading and discussion. It’s a warm, judgment-free space where you can come as you are, reflect on your experiences, and gain new insights alongside others who understand the journey. Whether you want to share or simply listen, you’ll find a welcoming community ready to support you.

What You Can Expect Each Week
Our sessions are designed to balance thoughtful discussion with practical healing activities. Each 90-minute meeting includes:
Welcome and grounding: We start with breathing exercises, mindfulness, and a brief check-in to help everyone arrive fully present.
Book discussion: We review key chapters and ideas from The Body Keeps the Score, making trauma research accessible and relevant.
Therapeutic activity: Each week includes a guided activity focused on self-regulation, mindfulness, or healing techniques you can use in daily life.
Takeaway and closing: We end by setting a self-care goal and closing with a relaxation exercise to support your well-being.
This structure helps create a rhythm that supports learning and healing without feeling overwhelming.
Why This Book Club Matters
The Body Keeps the Score is a landmark book that has transformed how we understand trauma. Dr. van der Kolk explains how trauma affects the brain and body, and why traditional talk therapy alone often isn’t enough. The book offers practical tools that help regulate the nervous system and rebuild a sense of safety and control.
By exploring these ideas together, we can:
Demystify trauma: Understand what happens in the body and mind after trauma in simple, clear terms.
Learn practical tools: Discover mindfulness, breathing, and grounding techniques that support regulation and resilience.
Build community: Connect with others who share similar experiences in a respectful, supportive environment.
Encourage self-compassion: Practice kindness toward yourself as you navigate healing.
Healing is not a solo journey. This group offers a chance to feel seen, heard, and supported.
Who Should Join
This book club is for anyone interested in understanding trauma and healing better. You don’t need a background in psychology or therapy—just an open mind and a willingness to learn. Whether you are healing from your own trauma, supporting a loved one, or working in a helping profession, you will find value here.
We keep the group small (8 to 12 participants) to foster connection and safety. Sharing your story is always optional. You can come exactly as you are, without pressure or judgment.
